A gloved hand grips the throttle, turns it, stabbing the beast in motion. Leaving behind a cloud of dust, tread marks on the road and a few gasping admirers, the bike picks up and disappears into the sleepy highway.
As he eases up the gear, the speeding machine beneath him calms to a contented hum. There is a feeling of being one with the bike — man and machine — at 150 kmph. Welcome to the world of the Frenzy Ryderz.
More than a dozen bikers on the list, Frenzy Ryderz is a group of spirited youngsters who are a biking and stunt clan. They also claim to be India’s only super bike stunt group based in Bangalore.
A small fraternity, self training and passion drive these hungry riders. Their idea of time pass is to watch videos of their international counterparts and replicate those moves on smaller machines. They started their venture to promote their own country’s skill and stop the “import†of stuntmen who often burn up the Indian silver screen with their death-defying stunts.
Their professional circuits include Chennai and Coimbatore. A mix of sports biking and stunt flaunting, these dudes have their own version of rivalry with the rather improbably named Red Roosters, a similar group that specialise only in racing. These frenzied riders learnt stunts by accident. The riders even point out: “Every group has one, doesn’t it?†An almost celebrity brotherhood by now, they intend to create public awareness on wearing helmets and body gear to enhance safe and sound riding.
Stunt riding however, isn’t as glamorous as it sounds or looks. It is not just about wearing cool togs and leaping on a bike and vanishing to the sound of shrieking tires and a cloud of exhaust. (Oops did anyone say global warming?)
A lot of rigorous practice has gone in to make these gizmo gods what they are today. The bikers club consists of Nikhil Hegde, Sumanth S.V., Rohit Giri, Rahul Mansbdar, Ravi Kiran, Farhan Armaan, Sugan Prasad, Anirudh Dube, Mohammad Javed, Dr. Yahya, Praveen, K.G. Raghunath and Sunny Sabharwal — all aged between 20 and 28 years.
John Abraham apparently took biking lessons for the bikes and babes thriller "Dhoom" from these dudes. They also had a rendezvous with Indian cricket’s poster boy Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Ask them who they idolise and pat comes the answer, “Valentino Rossi.â€

“Stunting should be a sport in India and I want more and more people to encourage the sport,†says Nikhil, the ambitious 22-year-old who represented Frenzy Ryderz at a championship held in Malaysia last year.
A peek into their “hall of fame†reveals some big wins including the top slot in the 400 meters annual wheelie competition.
Rohit Giri bagged the second place in 2005 while Nikhil took the second spot in the 2006 competition held in Bangalore and the 2007 one held in Mumbai.
Bikes of choice include Yamaha R1, Honda HRC, Suzuki Hayabusa and other mean machines. Director of the club, Nikhil Hegde, prefers the Ducati 1098 — his dream bike, while Rohit goes for the M1 from the Yamaha stable. All these riders give a thumbs-up to the RD 350, a bike that was in production in India itself.
Rohit has already ventured into the big bad world of films and has performed stunts for three Kannada and two Telugu movies.
He has also worked on ad films appearing in the commercials for Crusty Demons and Mountain Dew and wants more bikers who have the talent, as well as bikes, to join the gang.
Their scout for fresh talent went virtual in December last year, with the inauguration of their website www.frenzyryderz.com. Their community on Orkut is 1000-members strong and growing.
You can catch their videos online and whoop at their dexterously-done stunts, wheelies, stoppies, side sketching and everything that bikes and roads have in common to offer.
Biking costs money and helping them financially is 32-year-old Anil Lad, a businessman and politician who has sponsored umpteen championships.
The one major crib the bikers have is the fact that all the cool super bikes come with steep custom duty and tedious paper work.
Apart from that, life is a song as you rev up up that mean machine, put pedal to metal and hit the road.
