The same pattern played out in the early hours of Monday — with one difference. Forty-five bikers were arrested this time. The police say there were between 150 and 200 men on motorcycles but the others escaped.
The gang of motorcyclists had earlier harassed people at the Bangla Sahib Gurdwara. The police said the bikers beat up a cameraman of a news channel near the gurdwara, and snatched his camera and mobile phone. “When some people tried to come to his rescue, they too were assaulted,†said a police officer.
After this the bikers ate at a dhaba near Shivaji Stadium at Connaught Place. There they refused to pay the owner, fought and left. The police caught up with them when they were speeding around Connaught Place. There was a scuffle and the motorcyclists threw stones at the police. Eight policemen were injured. Five police cars were damaged.
The police officer said, “When our team reached the spot they fled in different directions, trying to escape. We managed to arrest 45 people but the others fled.†The arrests were made under sections of robbery and rioting. The arrested bikers were sent in judicial remand till August 5.
The police said there had been similar complaints in the past about a gang of bikers harassing commuters late at night, usually on weekends. They said most of these bikers come from west Delhi. The police officer said, “They tease women and speed around Connaught Place and come in the way of other motorists.â€
Police are looking for the other accused.

now all this is really bad news. a few rotten apples are spoiling the name of the entire biking fraternity. i saw a news report on CNN-IBN on the same issue and even they are raking it up. as it is our indian news channels have nothing worthwhile to cover. an event like this is like asking them to poke around, trump up more of their own stories and cause more heartburns among the bikers.
found the video of the incident on cnn-ibn website. can't figure out how to embed it here. you can watch it over at: http://www.ibnlive.com/videos/45554/.html
