Kristal, Bajaj Auto's first new generation scooter, has kick-started with a problem. The company has recalled them to rectify the issue and make them battle-ready for the market.

Being a trendsetter is not easy. And Bajaj Auto's scooter Kristal will readily endorse that. Kristal is the first scooter to sport a fuel pump, normally seen in fuel-injected motorcycles and cars. But the company had to recall several Kristals over the past few months when it developed a fuel-pump problem.

Sources say the problem led to engine knocking. When contacted, Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, confirmed there was an issue. He said, "There has been an occasional failure but it is not a serious, rampant, continuing issue."

The Kristal, launched in January, competes with vehicles like TVS Motor's Scooty Pep Plus and Hero Honda's Pleasure.

With a correction in the R&D lab, it is now fighting fit to compete. Bajaj Auto expects Kristal sales this month to soar to the highest so far and grow to 4,000 units next month. Besides, it expects scooter volumes to rise significantly as its next model arrives later this year.
