The Dakar Rally used to be the traditional off-road rally from Paris, France to Dakar, Senegal. The rally was last held in 2007 with the 2008 round canceled on account of fears of terrorist attack on contestants and spectators.
This year, Dakar Rally was held in South America for a period of 14 days from 3rd January to 17th January with the entire continent being traversed by the 540 participating teams starting from Buenos Aires and returning back to the same city after traveling a whopping distance of 9578 kilometers.
