Valentino Rossi won decisively at the Montegi round of MotoGP becoming the 2008 World MotoGP Champion.
Winning in style, Rossi started from fourth position in second row of the grid and quickly overtook the likes of Pedrosa and Lorenzo to take the fight to Casey Stoner who had been leading from 1st lap.
In lap 14, Rossi overtook Stoner and held onto the lead till end leading Stoner by almost 2 seconds. With the win in Montegi, Rossi now has a lead of 92 points over Casey Stoner with maximum of 75 points in offing with 3 races remaining.
Valentino Rossi with 6 MotoGP World Championship wins is now second only to Giacomo Agostini who has won 8 World Championships. Additionally Rossi is the only rider in hostory to have won on 4 types of motorcycles, a Honda 500cc 4 cylinder 2-stroke, Honda 990cc 5-cylinder 4-stroke, Yamaha 990cc 4-cylinder 4-stroke and a Yamaha 800cc 4-cylinder 4-stroke this year.

In other news from Montegi, Grand Pirx Comission today decided to implement single tyre supplier rule in MotoGP from next season. For the same, Dorna & FIM have asked for proposals for tyre supply to be submitted latest by 3 October. Final decision on the tyre supplier will be announced by 18th October.
